SMART PACKAGING TRAINING HELD FOR AGI MEMBERS

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), in collaboration with Catalonia Trade and Investment, organised a training seminar for members on smart packaging and added-value supply chain.

The training, which was held at the AGI Office in Accra, was designed to help industry to innovate and continuously add value and creativity to their products in order to boost sales and enter the export markets. It had 22 entrepreneurs, designers, product developers, production managers and business development officers participating.

Identifying packaging as a key element in the production and supply chain of goods, this short but practical training took participants through the new trends in packaging, how to innovate and create smart packaging solutions adaptable to local and international market and how to get products to attract investors’ eyes. Participants were also taken through some examples of technologies from Catalonia and how they can be adopted and applied in the Ghanaian market.

Facilitators at the training included Ms Florence Hiard, Director of the Accra office of Catalonia Trade & Investment and Ms Rosa Druguet, Executive Project Manager of the Accra office of Catalonia Trade & Investment. Others are Mr. Kofi Essuman, CEO of GS1 Ghana, a neutral and non-profit organization best known for issuing bar codes and facilitation of global trade through supply chain standards, Mr. Johnson Opoku-Boateng, Director of Business Development Services at AGI and Mr. Frans Wittermans, an EU Business Linkages Consultant.

There were also presentations by the Cluster of Packaging and Catalan companies, a cluster constituted by 73 companies, knowledge centers and entities representing the entire value chain of packaging in Catalonia; the Barcelona Institute of Packaging which promotes training, research and technological transfer in the area of packaging and Talleres Azuara, a company specialized in industrial maintenance and food industry.

This training is the first of a 3-course package under the AGI- Catalonia Industrial Know-How exchange programme for 2019. The dates for the other courses will be announced in due course.
