Government Focuses On Industrialisation

09 June 2010
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Hanna Tetteh, has expressed the desire for Ghana to have key industries in all the regions to process excess farm produce so as to enhance agriculture and livelihoods of farmers in the regions.
"Government is always calling for increased production, hence the need to have modern machinery ready in place to put the exces farm produce to use".

She brought this up when an Indian delegation called on her at her offie to discuss how to work together for solutions and also to build an improved Ghana-India working relationship.

Ms Tetteh threw more light on key investment areas in Ghana, adding that it is the desire of government to see agriculture and agro-processing positively making an early impact to transform the Ghanaian economy in the shortest possible time.

She also made mention of other investment areas such as transport, tourism, ICT and energy.  According to Ms Tetteh, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre is available to guide any investor in identifying and implementing their investment plans, adding that if the investment is strategic and has the ability to transform the economy, it will be directed to the Board of GIPC so as to create better and more favourable conditions for such an investor.

Mr Kappu Shapoor, head of delegation and chief adviser to the Indian High Commission, was appreciative of the support enjoyed by Indian investors here in Ghana and related their success in enriching the Ghana-Indian relationship to the hard working nature of the sector-minister and her dedication to work in ensuring that goals are achieved without unnecessary delays.

The delegation, which described the sector-minister as a brilliant leader who gets results at a very fast pace, also promised to inject more finances into the system by way of investment and called for government's collaboration and support to help achieve their investment goals.
